Travel Hydration

Posted on June 04, 2025

When the school year finally ends, many families across the country pack their bags and set out for a fun family vacation. And while summer is a great time to travel, it’s also a time when many of us get out of our daily routine of staying properly hydrated. Vacations typically mean being more active, spending more time outdoors, and being exposed to different climates. All of this makes for a great family adventure, but it can also be a recipe for dehydration if you aren’t careful.

Whether you’re taking a long road trip or flying around the globe, making sure that every member of your family packs a reusable water bottle is the best way to ensure that everyone stays properly hydrated during your vacations this summer. Taking that small step of making a water bottle part of your essential travel gear can provide many benefits that will help make vacations more enjoyable. Here are just a few:

  • Makes Air Travel More Comfortable – If your travel plans call for flying to your destination, bringing an empty water bottle with you and filling it up as soon as you pass through security can help you stay properly hydrated during your flight. Pressurized cabins are notoriously dry and while most flights provide beverages throughout the trip, it’s important to have your own bottle of water and take frequent sips to stay properly hydrated in the air.
  • Helps Prevent Altitude Sickness – For many people, travel means a change in altitude. If you are visiting an area that is even a couple thousand feet higher than where you live, it’s important to be prepared for acclimating to the higher elevation where the air is thinner than what you’re used to. Staying properly hydrated—and even drinking more water than you’re used to at home—is one of the best ways to avoid getting altitude sickness when you travel to higher elevations.
  • Helps Prevent Heat Stroke – Warmer destinations tend to be “hot spots” for travelers, especially the first trip of the summer when it might still be a chilly spring at your home. Keep in mind that the hotter temperatures also bring an increased risk of heat stroke when you aren’t used to hot, dry climates. Carrying a water bottle on all your adventures is a great reminder for everyone to stay hydrated and avoid heat stroke.
  • Gives You More Energy – Many vacations are based on packed itineraries that allow you to see and experience as much as possible during your trip. But if you and your children aren’t properly hydrated, enjoying the many sights and activities on your itinerary might be difficult. Dehydration can result in a lack of energy, sluggishness, and irritability, all of which can put a serious damper on how much enjoyment your family has during busy vacations.

Nothing can derail a family vacation faster than dehydration. Fortunately, it’s a potential pitfall that’s easy to avoid by simply making sure that everyone in the family has a water bottle that they enjoy carrying and drinking from. And with so many fun and functional water bottles to choose from, there’s no reason why you can’t find the perfect bottles that put smiles on the faces of everyone in your family!
