BBQ Essentials

BBQ Essentials

Posted on July 22, 2025

Backyard barbeques are a seminal part of summer for many families across the country. With the weather warming up, it’s time to pull the cover off the grill and get ready for one of the most essential summer traditions. Before you plan your first big barbeque of the summer, though, make sure that you have all the BBQ Essentials covered. Here are a few that sometimes go overlooked but often make the difference between a dud of a day and a successful soiree.

Multiple Main Courses – Just because you’re a carnivore doesn’t mean everyone on your invite list is. Plan to have some lighter main courses as well as some vegetarian options that you can grill to make sure everyone gets their fill.

Sturdy Serveware – From chip bowls to burger platters, make sure that your serveware is strong enough to stand up to the most rambunctious backyard barbeques. You aren’t hosting a tea party after all!

Condiments – Think past what you love on your burgers and steaks and make sure to provide as many condiments as possible. From mayonnaise and honey-mustard to salsa and a variety of cheeses, the more options you provide, the happier your guests will be.

Durable Dinnerware – Forget paper plates and don’t even consider single-use plastic dinnerware. Give your guests something sturdy enough to cut steak on and durable enough to withstand outdoor use. It’s better for the environment and your pocketbook.

Ample Activities – Cornhole, croquet, horseshoes, and even bocce ball. The number of outdoor activities you can organize is almost endless. Never underestimate the power that these games can have to keep smiles on the faces of your guests.

Seating Solutions – You don’t have to feel the need to set a formal table, but it is nice to make sure that there are enough seating options for all your guests. A camp chair here and a folding table stacked against the wall are usually enough to make sure that seats are available if someone wants to grab one and pull it up to a conversation.

Reusable Water Bottles – You might think you have drink options covered, but don’t forget about the importance of keeping your guests properly hydrated. Want to make your BBQ a little more earth-friendly? Give your guests reusable water bottles to fill up instead of disposable plastic bottles.

Barbeques aren’t made to be complicated, but there are definitely steps you can take to raise your backyard get-togethers to the next level – and keep your guests always coming back for more!
