Simple Strawberry Syrup Recipe

Posted on September 26, 2013

There is nothing better than a perfectly ripe strawberry (well…maybe a blueberry), but still…I love when all the berries are perfectly ripe and juicy and sweet. That’s why I thought I would share this recipe for a simple strawberry syrup.

It’s rustic. Rustic is my fancy word for not perfect and just sort of thrown together. It tastes amazing and because we are calling it rustic there is no need to puree it. It takes just one pot and good wooden spoon. That’s it!

This syrup is perfect for topping on waffles, pancakes, or dipping your French toast sticks into it. We used it as a dip for some sausage stuffed pancake bites. The syrup is a bit chunky because it’s not pureed, so if you want it smooth then give it a whirl in a blender or with an immersion blender.

  • 26oz Strawberries, roughly chopped
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 orange juiced
  1. Place all ingredients in a large sauce pan and bring to a low boil. Stir and mash with a wooden spoon until the berries break down. Continue boiling and stirring until syrup reaches your desired consistency. If you prefer a smooth syrup, use an immersion blender to break up the berries even more. Store the sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to week.
