5 Ideas for a Morning Meal

1. The tray

This is the most important part of serving your hard work. Sure, you might be able to conscript your children or put together a circus-worthy balancing act on your own, but that just makes things more difficult in the long run. Putting it all on a serving tray keeps it easy to handle, and your spouse/significant other/parent/special person will be able to hold it on their lap without spilling everything on the blanket. Look for a breakfast tray with lots of space, a defined rim, and large handles. A large serving platter or cookie sheet could work in a pinch, but make sure the surfaces aren’t curved or warped and remember to pay attention to the presentation. Try using shelf liner for decoration or a silicone mat for a non-slip surface.

2. Plates and glasses

Take a look at all the colors and patterns available in our tabletop collections! Plastic plates are much less fragile than glass or ceramic, which is especially great if children are involved in any phase. The same goes for plastic tumblers as well—and the best part is, you don’t have to sacrifice style for functionality. With options from durable tumblers that look like glass to fun, unique coffee mugs to bubbly champagne flutes and more, you can create the perfect look for any occasion.

3. Food

This one is really up to you and what you know about your Special Person. There are tons of delicious and easy breakfast recipes out there, so pick one you think they’ll enjoy, or find a treat they don’t get to have very often. Practice the recipe once or twice if you’re not confident in your cooking skills, and make sure you have all the ingredients ahead of time.

4. Miscellany

Do you have silverware? Napkins? Salt, pepper, and hot sauce? And don’t forget to chill the champagne for the mimosas! Depending on the dish you make and your Special Person’s personal taste, you might not need all the bells and whistles, but make a plan ahead of time so you don’t leave out anything important.

5. Flowers

Well, we say flowers, but what we really mean is that personal touch. This is your chance to get a little creative. Maybe pick up a favorite flower instead of the usual roses, or try something fun like flower-shaped napkins and food art. Write a card with a meaningful message or doodle on the napkin. These little details are what make this meal truly special.

Don’t be overwhelmed by any of this—your breakfast in bed tray doesn’t need to be perfect. All you have to do is give it a little thought and take the time to prepare, and you’ll be able to wow anyone with one morning meal.
