Spokane, WA (May 13, 2016) –On May 18, Junior Achievement of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho will honor Irv Zakheim with its prestigious Bob Shugert Award. The award is named in honor of Bob Shugert, who served as president of Junior Achievement of the Inland Northwest for 25 years.
“Besides and beyond Zak Designs, Inc., Irv is making a long-term, indelible mark on our community,” said Gordon Budke, member of the JA selection committee. “From the Zak!Charity Open benefitting the Rypien Foundation and the formation of the 6th Man Club in support of EWU basketball to being a founder and board member of Reach for the Future, Irv’s community commitment exemplifies the values and purposes of Junior Achievement.”
The Shugert Award was established to perpetuate the spirit of caring that Mr. Shugert embodied and is presented each year to a member of the community who serves as an outstanding example of someone who dreams big and embodies economic education and the principles of the free enterprise system that JA promotes.
“Junior Achievement does so much to help motivate and inspire young people and foster their entrepreneurial spirit,” Zakheim said. “I am deeply honored to receive an award from such an outstanding organization, especially one that’s named after such a respected pillar of our community. It’s truly humbling.”
