For a Casual Holiday Party

When you host a holiday dinner party, you might find that the RSVPs outnumber the place settings your good china can accommodate. It’s not always possible to find matching china to fill in the missing pieces, and even if you could, you might hesitate at the cost for extra dinnerware you’ll only use on special occasions. But what else can you do to set a table worthy of your gathering? Paper plates definitely aren’t enough to impress anyone. Fortunately, you have another option: melamine plates.

Yes, you eat off of this dinnerware every day, but that doesn’t mean it’s taboo on special occasions! There are a couple of advantages to using melamine plates for your holiday party:

  1. Melamine is more durable than fine china, and much sturdier than paper. You can even run it through the dishwasher for easy cleanup after the party!
  2. Melamine plates look great! They come in fun colors and patterns, doubling as holiday décor and creating a festive atmosphere.

You might be thinking, well, melamine just isn’t as fancy as china. That’s true, but does it have to be a bad thing? There’s less formality attached, lowering the stress and pressure of the gathering and bringing in a little more fun. Plus, it opens the door for more versatility in setting your table. Most people don’t have a party’s worth of matching melamine place settings either, but unlike with china, you can mix and match without looking disordered. Just be purposeful about it. Pair solids with patterns or develop a distinct color palette, and you can create a unique and diverse style for your holiday dinner.
